Discover how to use dialogue as a powerful teaching tool to foster deeper understanding through reflective, respectful, and inquiry-based conversations.

Using dialogue as an instructional strategy requires practice and consistency in order to help learners engage in real conversations and reach mutual understanding. In this session, educators will explore how they can expand on teaching interventions for greater impact and to support learners in developing deeper dialogue. Educators will reflect on three areas that learners must exhibit to create opportunities for greater understanding. Through key strategies and activities, participants will practice how to guide learners into respectful, reflective, and inquiry-based conversations.

About the session's moderators:

Angélica Santana Fierro

Angélica has worked in the Education and Training fields for 16 years. She advocates for the integration of technology and intercultural skills to empower global citizens. Formerly a social sciences professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, she created Connective Multicultural Learning, a nationwide virtual exchange strategy. As an Education and Technology Consultant, she collaborated with institutions like The State University of New York and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Since 2021 she is an Education Specialist at Generation Global.

Lisa Petro

Lisa is the Education and Quality Lead at Generation Global. Previously, she was a Senior Education Advisor for the programme at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. Lisa also co-founded Know My World, a global education organization fostering social, emotional, and cultural learning through virtual exchange. She has led on global citizenship curriculum development and professional training for governments, NGOs, and institutions worldwide, including Tecnológico de Monterrey, Nepali Education Support Trust, and One Globe Kids. Lisa has over 20 years of experience in global education, curriculum and instructional design, and teacher training. Lisa holds a Master's in Humanistic and Multicultural Education and a Bachelor's in Art Education K-12 from SUNY New Paltz.
