Privacy Policy


1.1. This website (the “Website”) is operated by Generation Global: a programme of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. Tony Blair Institute, trading as Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, is a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales (registered company number: 10505963) whose registered office is One Bartholomew Close, London, EC1A 7BL (“Generation Global”). Generation Global operate the Generation Global global schools programme (“The Programme”).


Under the terms of various Data Protection legislation (including, in the UK the Data Protection Act 1998) all users must give their consent before Generation Global can make any use of their personal data as part of the Programme so Generation Global need to ensure that you understand how students’ personal data will be used.


3.1. Generation Global will use personal data in the following ways:

  • a) Generation Global will use a student’s first name and surname such as “Joe Bloggs” in order to register a student with the Programme, and to set up their individual account on the online community. A working email address (which will not be disclosed to other users) will also be required to set up an account, as well as a date of birth (which is required to automatically close the account 9 months after the student's 18th birthday).
  • b) Once registered, there will be an opportunity for students to input other details about themselves in setting up their individual profile accounts, which will be on an entirely voluntary basis. Such details may include biographical information such as their name, age, nationality and faith.
  • c) Any such biographical information that is freely volunteered by a student, may be used by Generation Global for the purpose of internal evaluation of the Programme.
  • d) The collective results of such an evaluation may be published in printed materials or on the Website. However, the biographical information of individual students will never be replicated in any such publication.
  • e) Generation Global may engage third party data processors to process a students’ data for the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy and for the benefit of Generation Global. Please be assured that Generation Global place obligations on their data processors to ensure this information is kept secure and is only used for the purpose specified above.
  • f) Generation Global may pass on a students’ volunteered information to an external research team overseen by researchers at Oxford University, for the purpose of collating and processing the data for evaluation. Please be assured that Generation Global place obligations on the research team to ensure this information is kept secure and anonymous, and is only used for the purpose specified above.


4.1. Occasionally, Generation Global may take photographs of students participating in the Programme, or make video or webcam recordings from school-to-school video conferencing. These images and videos may be used for non-commercial purposes in Generation Global’s printed publications, as well as on the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change website, for the purposes of marketing or other educational use. Specific permission will always be sought prior to any use of these images.

4.2. Generation Global will at all times abide by the following conditions of use of any image or video of participating students:

  • a) Consent will be valid for [5] years from the date on which the image or video is created. The consent will automatically expire after this time.
  • b) The Generation Global Providers will not use biographical information such as a student’s name, email address, or school details which would allow them to be identified in a photographic image on video on the website, or in any other printed publication.
  • c) The Generation Global Providers may use group or class photographs or footage with very general labels, such as “a video conference on humanities, in a school in London”.
  • d) Hard copies of images will be stored in a secure location. They will be reviewed from time to time and adequately destroyed once the period for consent has expired.


5.1. At all times Generation Global will process students’ data in a way that is fair, lawful, secure, accurate and will not be kept for longer than necessary. Biographical information about students will at all times be processed in a manner in keeping with the student’s rights under the Data Protection Act 1998.

5.2. If any student does not wish for his or her personal data to be used in accordance with this Privacy Policy they should not be involved with the Programme and their personal details should not entered any page of the Website. By entering personal details into the Website students will be deemed to have accepted this Privacy Policy.
