Essentials of Dialogue
Young people need tools to build societies that welcome diversity and encourage an open-minded and
inclusive approach. To support this, educators need straightforward and simple lessons and activities.
"Essentials of Dialogue" is a resource filled with activities for use in learning communities to build the core skills of dialogue and is foundational for any curriculum or programme centred around global citizenship and intercultural communication.
Each chapter includes both theory and practical activities to help explore, develop, and practise
dialogue. The resource is free to use all over the world.

Difficult Dialogue in the Classroom
It often falls to teachers to address students' resulting fears and concerns and these resources will
help you to work through them in a classroom environment.
Dealing with shocking events is challenging in any classroom, and we are providing this resource to
support you as you support your students to achieve a greater understanding through promoting
dialogue.
This resource builds on the Essentials of Dialogue, a practical guide and resource package for
teachers and other educators to equip young people with the basic skills of dialogue so that as they
discuss, they achieve a greater understanding of one another in a diverse and globalised world. It
is recommended that you are familiar with the Essentials of Dialogue prior to engaging with this
guidance on difficult dialogue.

The Youth Dialogue Handbook
It is imperative that we give young people the tools to play an active role in building societies
that welcome diversity, rather than fearing it, that encourage an open-minded approach to the other,
rather than the cultivation of bias and intolerance to those who are different.
Recognising the diverse communities living in Lebanon, the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID), in partnership with the Tony Blair Institute, undertook a pilot to examine the
efficacy of youth dialogue centred on identifying bias and increasing tolerance.
This handbook was designed during the delivery of the Wahda program. We are delighted to extend this
resource to educators across the world to teach young people these valuable dialogue skills in their
local contexts. This handbook provides a practical resource to support teachers, facilitators, youth
volunteers, practitioners, dialogue trainers, and anyone who wants to give young people, whether in
school or elsewhere, an exceptional experience of dialogue with their peers and community.

Teacher Briefing Note - What is Extremism?
Discussions about extremism, particularly the global threat of ISIS, currently dominate public
debate, column inches, and the halls of government. Classrooms constitute a crucial forum for young
people to engage with the many challenging elements surrounding this subject.
Generation Global has used its expertise in developing innovative educational pedagogies and teaching
resources to develop a series of briefings that break down the current media and policy debates
surrounding extremism into resources for facilitating dialogue on these issues in the classroom.
This briefing is intended to equip you as a teacher, with accurate, objective, and nuanced
information about extremism.

Teacher Briefing Note - Anti-Semitism, Anti-Zionism and Criticism of Israel
Incidents of anti-Semitism continue to rise around the world. Recent years have seen the highest
level of anti-Semitic hate incidents recorded in the UK1 and a 60 per cent growth in the US, with a
worrying spike in incidents taking place in or around schools.2 Across much of Western Europe, the
picture is similar, and in other areas of the world, particularly the Middle East and North Africa
and South and Southeast Asia, anti-Semitic hate speech is common in the mainstream.

Power of Narrative
A resource to give young people the knowledge and understanding of how stories and narratives shape
our lives, and to give them the skills and confidence to respond critically to narratives and
narrators who seek to divide us.
In this module we use the terms narratives and stories interchangeably. In both we refer to the tales
that we tell ourselves to make sense of the world and our place within it. These can be local
folklore, 'news', information from the web, family tales, myths, legends, religious and cultural
stories, what we hear from leaders and politicians.
In this module students will explore how they come across these narratives and stories, and the
impact that these have on themselves and their communities.

Action Against Hate Speech
This module is designed to prepare students for dialogue around the issue of hate speech. It builds
upon other work on human rights, and explores the balancing act between freedom of expression and
freedom from insult. Additionally, it prepares students for dialogue on these issues in our
facilitated videoconferences and on our safe, secure, online community.
We encourage you and your students to get involved in educating, advocating, and acting against hate
speech in your communities, and sharing your plans with us. We encourage teachers to approach these
materials creatively, and to use them to enhance existing curriculum materials.

Human Trafficking
This resource is designed to prepare students, ages 13-17, for dialogue around the issue of
Human Trafficking. It has been adapted from Generation Global's
legacy resource created in collaboration with Stop the Traffik, a pioneer organization to prevent
human trafficking. Within this resource, educators will find a series of lesson plans that support
young people in preparing to dialogue about this pressing issue with their peers from all over
the world.
These activities ask young people to think
about the value of human life, whose responsibility it is to tackle this global crisis, and to
explore ways to raise awareness of the issue and help protect themselves and others against
the dangers of being trafficked.
