Why We Dialogue for Peace?
Before any peace agreement was signed, before any conflict ended, before any understanding was reached — someone decided to listen.
It sounds simple. It isn't. Genuinely listening to someone whose life looks different from yours, whose fears are shaped by different experiences, whose version of the world doesn't match your own — that takes something. Courage. Curiosity.
Because peace isn't one thing. It lives inside us, between us, and in the world around us — not as the absence of conflict, but as something active: people enabled, voices heard, dignity upheld. Dialogue is how we build all three: By understanding your own identity well enough to share it; by not holding on to ideas we might have about our differences; by listening to someone else’s perspectives openly.
That's where peace starts. And it starts with you.
About Peace Day & Peace Day Dialogues
That's where peace starts. And it starts with you. Observed globally on 21 September, the United Nations International Day of Peace is a call to people everywhere to reflect, act, and commit — not just to the end of conflict, but to the active presence of justice, understanding, and dignity in the world.
During the week of 21 September, Generation Global hosts a series of live video conferences bringing students together across borders for facilitated intercultural dialogue on peace and security. Last year, more than 960 young people from 20 countries took part. These aren't debates or lectures — they're genuine conversations where every voice counts equally, and the goal is understanding, not winning.
For Young People
What does peace mean to you — and what does it mean to someone growing up somewhere completely different?

For Educators
Sometimes, the most powerful learning happens when students encounter a perspective they couldn't have found in a textbook.
The Peace Day Dialogues give your students a live, facilitated conversation with peers from around the world — and our free Peace Day teaching resource helps you prepare them for it. Explore ideas about peace from across world religions, cultures, and traditions in the classroom, then bring those conversations global.
