A survivor of the darkest days of Bujumbura in Burundi in the early 90s, and an apostle of soul, rhythm & blues, J.P. Bimeni escaped his country aged 15 during the 1993 civil war and genocide. Following multiple attempts on his life, he was given refugee status and fled to Wales. JP later went on to graduate from UWC Atlantic College. Music has been his escape, his therapy. He has released two successful albums, Free Me and Give Me Hope, using his music to reflect on what we’re going through right now. Surrounded by The Black Belts, his faithful band of six Spanish gunslingers, JP has the comfort and confidence to express everything he wants to express.

Recorded at the Festival of Hope Wales on 2nd December 2022 at UWC Atlantic College, St Donats, Wales.
