Parents
Generation Global gives young people opportunities to learn from others, explore complex issues, build useful capabilities and take action on the things they care about.
We want them to encounter new perspectives and ask difficult questions in a safe, structured, and inclusive environment.
Different initiatives offer different experiences.
Through Generation Global, young people can:
- Meet and learn from peers from different countries and backgrounds
- Strengthen essential communication and collaboration skills
- Explore global issues in ways that are connected to their own lives
- Build confidence in self-expression
- Take part in projects and community action
- Find a global community of peers
Generation Global initiatives support young people in creating a personalized pathway through the platform that fosters agency, growth, and meaningful opportunities.
Dialogue Exchange involves direct interaction between young people aged 13 to 17, including online dialogue and live video conferences. Safeguarding is therefore built into how participation works.
Parents and guardians are part of the process
Parents or legal guardians are informed when a young person registers for the Ultimate Dialogue Adventure.
Online interaction is moderated
Participation is restricted to youth ages 13-17 only. Online interactions and live video conferences are monitored, moderated, and facilitated by adult staff.
Adults working with young people are trained
All staff including the moderation and facilitation teams complete annual safeguarding training and rigourous background checks before working within the programme.
Personal information should stay personal
Young people are instructed not to share information such as personal email addresses, telephone numbers or social media handles with other participants.
Participants are also asked not to take or share screenshots from Dialogue Spaces, video conferences or other Generation Global activities.
There is a clear route for reporting concerns
Young people, parents and educators can report a concern directly to the Generation Global safeguarding team. The programme also maintains information about local safeguarding services in countries around the world.
Safety is part of the learning
Young people are also encouraged to understand their own rights and responsibilities online and offline. Dialogue Exchange includes learning around issues such as human rights, inclusion and hate speech, helping participants think critically about how they treat others and how they protect themselves.
Generation Global includes experiences ranging from online dialogue to community events, grants and advisory opportunities.
The format, age requirements and level of participation therefore vary. Each opportunity provides information about who can participate and what young people, parents, schools or educators need to know before taking part.
