Video Conferences
Dialogue Exchange video conferences bring young people from different countries and backgrounds together for live, facilitated conversations about global issues.
Share your perspective. Ask questions. Listen to others. Discover how the same issue can look completely different somewhere else.
What is a Dialogue Exchange video conference?
Video conferences are 1-hour online encounters where young people practise dialogue skills to learn directly from one another.
Participants discuss social and global issues such as Climate Change, Identity and Belonging, Wealth and Poverty, AI, Future of Work and many others.
The objective is not to reach one answer or persuade everyone to agree.
It is to understand one another better through dialogue.
Sessions are:
- designed for young people aged 13 to 17
- facilitated by trained Dialogue Exchange facilitators
- 60 minutes long, with an additional 15-minute dial-in period
- offered on weekdays across different time zones
- available in multiple languages, English, Arabic, French, Ukrainian, Bahasa Indonesian, Spanish, Hindi and Mandarin Chinese.
What happens in a session?
Gathering
The session starts by hearing different experiences, stories and points of view.
Exploring
As the session continues, participants will explore common themes emerging, differences spotted, and any questions raised, looking to understand each other.
Reflecting
The session ends with reflections on the moments that expanded thinking, things understood about each other, and the dialogue skills used.
Practise the five core skills
A video conference gives participants the opportunity to practise:
Sharing personal experiences, values and perspectives authentically and respecting views that may be different or challenging.
Listening to understand what another person is saying and demonstrating empathy and recognition.
Evaluating, analysing and interpreting information about ourselves, other people and the world.
Asking questions that deepen understanding, include different voices and move dialogue forward.
Thinking about our own and others’ experience of dialogue and what we can learn from it.
Prepare before you dialogue
Young people first complete the corresponding Ultimate Dialogue Adventure topic before joining a video conference.
This gives everyone a shared understanding of the issue before they bring their own experiences and perspectives into the live dialogue.
Who can participate?
Young people participating independently
Join the Ultimate Dialogue Adventure, progress through a topic and unlock opportunities to participate in live dialogue.
