Access Frame

The Access Frame product is an adaptive seating and support system that is intended to provide accessibility and independence to people with lower body mobility impairments. While most mobility aids are designed to accommodate the needs for movement, the Access Frame is centered on interaction with the environment.

The Access Frame product is an adaptive seating and support system that is intended to provide accessibility and independence to people with lower body mobility impairments. While most mobility aids are designed to accommodate the needs for movement, the Access Frame is centered on interaction with the environment.

The system includes a forward leaning support mechanism, where the backrest leans forward and the footrests support the legs, allowing the user to lean forward while seated. Additionally, there is a scissor-lift mechanism that provides adjustable height, allowing users to access desks and counters without the need to rise from their seats.

The project is intended to address accessibility issues that are brought about by expensive accessibility aids and environments that are not designed to accommodate seated individuals.

The Access Frame is centered on mechanical, accessible, and affordable design, allowing it to be easily integrated into existing mobility aids. The idea behind the project is to create a functional design, gain insights from users, and develop a framework that can be shared and built upon.

The project is intended to demonstrate the power of inclusive and human centered design in eliminating inequalities and enhancing the lives of people with mobility challenges.
