BarrierMUN
When people first hear of BarrierMUN as "an organization that reduces barriers to participate in MUN", they often miss the larger implications.
Of course, their assumptions of "IR and Poli-sci" are valid, but more than that, our NGO is an exercise in sharing the development of 21st century skills. Participation in MUN means learning to concisely communicate, relentlessly research, and critically consider options. As natives of Thailand, we see the endless repetition and conformity of the public school system, therefore we saw our need. We've translated rules from English to Thai and created an "in-between" ESL format to get rid of the necessity of English fluency--well that was a start. Given the tall order of establishing a otherwise non-existent MUN community, we provide webinar sessions, direct support for clubs, and organize conferences to foster growth. The international school MUN community has seen itself a top its ivory tower for much too long; ultimately our project hopes to change that. We hope our project connects the disparate communities that form Thai youth--and maybe everyone can learn a little something along the way. Maybe it's just a pipe dream, but we see no reason why can't happen where you are from too. Find out more: https://www.instagram.com/barriermun/; https://www.barriermun.org/
