Better with Bees

Allen High School, aiming to create a long-term habitat for native plants and pollinators at our school. We strive for sustainability and innovation through our trailblazing approaches to urban land use in 2023 through our implementation of a meadow. Our project aims to address the harmful effects of lawn maintenance practices involving fertilizing, weed whacking, mowing, and curating lawns, as these practices cause both air and noise pollution and require large quantities of fossil fuels annually. Through research and knowledge gathered during this project, we hope to find an accessible way for schools across Canada to implement sustainable habitats on campus and reduce their carbon emissions from lawn care, showing a little more love to the bees and other pollinators in the process.
