Between The Roots
I aim to distribute biogas balloons, a renewable energy source, to rural areas in Thailand who do not have the money to afford them.
Biogas balloons recycle food waste through some biological processes that convert it to cooking gas. Additionally, the process produces fertilizer as a byproduct. These balloons are thus a catalyst for sustainable living by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from food waste as well as reducing the cost of buying cooking gas every month. While biogas balloons are beneficial, their high cost makes it difficult for rural villages to make use of them. Seeing the benefits of the balloon, I aim to spread awareness about them so more people understand this incredible energy source. I have also begun fundraising through my organization Between The Roots, which goes on service trips to villages in Thailand to supply them with biogas balloons. With the grant from the IB, I am so excited for the many villages we can begin to support, further promoting renewable energy sources and enabling villagers to live sustainable lives.
