Bridge
'Bridge' is a project aimed at reforming prisons, rehabilitating prisoners and aiding their reintegrate into society in order to prevent reoffending with the ultimate goal of preventing the next victim.
To achieve this, we follow a two-pronged approach, starting with rehabilitation. We have worked to improve living conditions inside prisons by hosting medical camps, establishing libraries and gardens. In addition, we provide training in essential skills including speech and body language and specialised programs like 'Java for Justice', teaching juveniles coding and imparting financial literacy to women. The second step is reintegration. Through our job portal, we connect ex-prisoners to fair chance employers to help them gain financial independence. Additionally, we provide grants to former inmates to start their own businesses, empowering them financially, helping them get their life back on track, and breaking the vicious cycle of crime.
By sharing our work, the IB Global Youth Action Fund helps remove the stigma and tackle misinformation around incarceration, raise awareness about the need for effective rehabilitation and reintegration - rather than sole punishment - in prison systems, and inspire similar efforts to address the root causes of crime and the systemic failures of our criminal justice system.
