Canvas to Classrooms
We are the Canvas to Classrooms Team, doing a project under the Red-Strokes Foundation (a small non-profit focused on solving humanitarian problems within our society through art-funding).
As part of Ghana's education system, the arts are often overlooked with limited resources, low academic priority, and negative societal perceptions all undermining students' needs for creative development and cultural awareness. This hinders progress toward SDG 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education and this lack of arts education prohibits learners and young artists from developing essential creative, critical thinking, and emotional skills needed for holistic learning and lifelong development.
To address the lack of arts education in Ghana, our project, Canvas to Classrooms, will set up mini art studios in two schools and one orphanage, providing learners with access to creative spaces and resources. Our team of six, through our carefully crafted textbook and curriculum, will lead monthly lessons on the basic art principles and on methods to create awareness through art. By offering regular instruction and materials, we aim to promote creativity and awareness on social, cultural, local and global issues, through providing the less fortunate artists with an opportunity to express themselves artistically.
