Caspian Sea Oxygen Monitoring: A Student-Led Sensor Project
Our project focuses on the problem of low dissolved oxygen levels in the Caspian Sea, particularly in the coastal area near Aktau, Kazakhstan. This issue can harm fish and other marine organisms and may lead to fish deaths, which affects the entire ecosystem.
As part of our IB project connected to Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water, our team is exploring ways to better monitor water conditions. We plan to design a prototype water sensor that can measure key indicators such as dissolved oxygen, temperature, and pH levels.
The goal of this system is to help detect environmental changes early and provide useful data about water quality in the region. With the support of the Global Youth Action Fund and consultation from experts, we hope our project will raise awareness about the challenges facing the Caspian Sea and contribute to protecting marine life in our local ecosystem.
