The Coffee Grounds and Gardening Initiative
We are Everything Starts Small, a youth-led nonprofit that runs the Coffee Grounds and Sustainability Project.
It is a student-led initiative to repurpose used coffee grounds as fertilizer and spread sustainability practices in our communities. We collect used coffee grounds from coffee shops, dry them, and sustainably redistribute them to local farmers, gardeners, and schools. Through sustainability workshops, our project allows our community to come together and learn how to decrease waste and adopt a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. With students at the forefront of change, we are also creating opportunities for youth to become the leaders of the future while supporting local businesses and farmers. We aim to increase sustainability and appreciation for nature by helping communities learn to reduce waste in the Bay Area and beyond.
