EcoFish Detox Project
Our project aims to tackle the issue of heavy metal contamination in seafood by using sustainable and natural materials, specifically citrus peels and tea pulp. These everyday waste products have the potential to act as biosorbents, which reduce heavy metal levels in seafood for safer consumption.
We’re conducting experiments to test the effectiveness of these materials, hoping to offer an accessible solution that communities around us and around the world can apply in the kitchens. But our mission doesn’t stop at research. We’re also creating a website to raise public awareness about heavy metal contamination—what it is, why it matters, and what people can do to protect themselves. Additionally, we’re developing a mobile app that enables users to identify various fish species and their associated risk levels for contamination, empowering consumers to make more informed choices.
With the support of the Global Youth Action Fund, we hope to share our solutions widely and inspire others, especially youth, to take action for a healthier, more sustainable future.
