Flowers for the Future
Flowers for the Future is an international student-led initiative with the mission of employing technology to bridge the gender-based gap in education.
Our work has manifested through using Zoom to teach over 350 Afghan girls at a clandestine learning center in Kabul, Afghanistan. We deliver interactive lessons in STEM, English, and the humanities on a weekly basis, as well as share art, creative writing, and aspects of each of our cultures. On top of teaching these girls, we have led activities and speaker sessions in our schools to educate other students about the importance of the work we are doing and how they can get involved. We have also held hybrid fundraisers in which the girls in Kabul and students from all of our chapters shared art, music, and poetry with the public over Zoom. So far we have raised over $25,000 USD.
It is our goal to prevent the occurrence of another ‘silent’ generation of Afghan women as a result of a lack of education. They are the torchbearers for future generations in their country, and we hope to ultimately raise enough funds to be able to sponsor the girls turning 18 so they can enrol in universities abroad.
