Across Vietnam's mountainous regions, traditional brocade weaving, an important part of many ethnic minority communities' cultural identity, is gradually disappearing as artisans face limited economic opportunities and younger generations move away from the craft.

Across Vietnam's mountainous regions, traditional brocade weaving, an important part of many ethnic minority communities' cultural identity, is gradually disappearing as artisans face limited economic opportunities and younger generations move away from the craft.

GIEO (Girls' Initiative for Education and Opportunities) was created to preserve these traditions by transforming authentic handwoven brocade into products that resonate with younger generations while creating sustainable livelihoods for the women who make them.

In Vietnamese, the word "gieo" means "to sow a seed," symbolizing hope and the opportunity for a brighter future. By connecting traditional craftsmanship with modern markets, GIEO creates stable income opportunities for ethnic minority women artisans while introducing Vietnam's cultural heritage to wider audiences. Profits from every product are reinvested into a community development fund that provides educational support and mentorship opportunities for local children.

GIEO envisions a future where cultural preservation and community development go hand in hand, and where ethnic minority women and girls have the resources, skills, and opportunities to shape their own futures while proudly preserving and sharing their cultural identity with the world.
