Profile
HélioPanel
One in ten people around the world do not have access to electricity. This means that when the sun sets, there are hundreds of millions of people who cannot study, childbirth happens in complete darkness, and many people do not have access to life saving medical equipment, simply due to where they were born.
Our project, HélioPanel, seeks to create a cheaper alternative to solar panels, by harnessing heat energy from the sun and the wind to generate a temperature difference that can be used to generate electricity. HélioPanel will have the ability to charge a couple of batteries for a day’s worth of sunlight, allowing people to utilize electrical lamps instead of dangerous kerosene ones.
We hope HélioPanel can improve lives by meeting basic energy needs, helping people access opportunities, safety, and dignity - from studying after dark to safely giving birth with light.
