Jaago
Project "Jaago" (meaning "Wake up") focuses on enhancing our democracy through empowerment of citizens, particularly the youth who will shape the nation's future.
We aim to achieve this through a three pronged approach (a) Increase awareness about democratic systems (b) Empower citizens to understand their roles and responsibilities, and encourage citizen participation (c) Drive active engagement between citizens and elected representatives.
The project also aims to foster a sense of civic responsibility and a deeper understanding of political systems among different stakeholders. We have conducted several sessions in our school to enhance awareness, created a voter ID guide which was shared with over 200 + teachers and drafted a Citizen Charter, which was shared with the local elected representative (MLA) of our city.
In the future, we plan to enrol 50 student ambassadors, who will amplify awareness within their respective communities. We also want to launch an App “Know your leader” which will help citizens to channel their suggestions and grievances with elected representative's.
Through this initiative, we aim to promote political awareness and foster a sense of civic responsibility, which means a more informed citizenry, and a more participative and representative democracy.
