Mpaka Refugee Camp: Creativity Hall
The Creativity Hall project seeks to establish a sustainable art space at Mpaka Refugee Camp in Eswatini.
The Creativity Hall project seeks to establish a sustainable art space at Mpaka Refugee Camp in Eswatini. Currently, the camp houses over 200 families, the majority of the residents being children. Waterford regularly partners with Mpaka, enabling both students and refugees to engage and learn mutually. However, after visiting the camp for community service several times and having conversations with the youth living there, we observed no opportunities for the development of their artistic skills. In response to this concern, our project is renovating an empty hall which will be converted into a designated area for arts. Through the support of GYAF, we seek to acquire instruments and equipment in music, dance, drama, visual arts and film.
We hope to achieve frequent workshops to nurture the creative, imaginative and inventive talents of the residents, host an annual event on World Refugee Dayon campus and use their creative voices to promote sustainable change.
