Myanmar Children Health Project (MCHP)
In Burmese healthcare, a significant challenge that persists is the lack of access to immunizations.
This challenge has exacerbated in recent years, due to political conflict and national instability within Myanmar, resulting in increased cost of vaccines and worsened access for marginalized communities who do not have the funds or the means to get vaccinated. To tackle this conflict, I have led a student-led organization called the Myanmar Children Health Project (MCHP) starting from 2023.
Established in 2018, MCHP partners with certified medical teams to vaccinate children against Hepatitis B, a disease particularly endemic in Myanmar. Since its establishment, the group has vaccinated 2000 children in the outskirts of rural Yangon (a city within Myanmar) against Hepatitis B.
Through establishing a reliable and accessible vaccination program, we as a group aim to increase immunization rates and aid communities most vulnerable to Hepatitis-B. This initiative will not only improve the health outcomes of Myanmar's children but also contribute to a broader recovery of the country's healthcare system.
