During the COVID-19 lockdown, students were cut off from typical social interactions.

Students felt anxious, scared, and uneasy and didn't know how to deal with their feelings. We were inspired to help students learn skills that would aid them in mitigating mental health stresses and give them reliable tools to draw upon if they have more struggles in the future. Research shows that one the strongest methods to alleviate feelings of loneliness or excess stress is to form social connections.
We plan to start a social platform called The Ohana Project. This platform is based on a social club that we started last year at our high school. We hope to teach self-help skills that can be used by students to manage emerging mental health issues. We will have tutorial videos on the platform featuring fun activities and how those skills can aid in managing mental health struggles. The intention is for students to use the platform as a resource, without having to talk to others about their difficulties. The website can be used by anyone, anywhere. The website will also have a step-by-step guide on how other people can create Ohana Clubs in their schools or communities. Find out more: we-are-ohana.org; https://www.instagram.com/ohanaiguana/
