Profile
Pacific Sister Project
The Pacific Sister Project is a youth-led initiative from Aotearoa New Zealand that empowers young people to respond to the growing threat of illicit drug use across the Pacific. Founded by secondary school students, the project combines education, advocacy, and action to protect vulnerable communities -especially girls and young women in Fiji.
We raise awareness through a youth-led photography competition that invites students from New Zealand, Fiji, and across the Pacific inviting young people to visually capture the impacts of drug abuse on local communities. Winning photos are displayed in public exhibitions, sparking conversations and fundraising for the project.
Beyond raising awareness, tangible actions are taken: in partnership with the Fiji Red Cross, we distribute health kits to Fijian girls in high-risk communities. These include HIV test kits, sanitary pads, condoms, and educational materials on the risks of drug use. Fundraising is led by student volunteers and supported by New Zealand schools.
We also advocate for drug education to be included in national curricula and collaborate with NGOs and government agencies to promote long-term solutions. The Pacific Sister Project is committed to amplifying youth voices and ensuring no girl is left behind in the fight for a safer, drug-free future.
