Poly Citra Bricks: An Ecofriendly Construction Solution.

Poly Citra Bricks is an initiative committed to turning environmental waste into sustainable, affordable building materials.

Poly Citra Bricks is an initiative committed to turning environmental waste into sustainable, affordable building materials.

The project repurposes discarded Styrofoam and D-limonene—a natural solvent derived from citrus peels through steam distillation or cold pressing—to create durable, lightweight, and eco-friendly bricks. This innovation tackles two major environmental challenges: plastic pollution and the carbon-intensive nature of traditional clay brick production. Unlike conventional bricks, Poly Citra Bricks require far less energy to manufacture, help reduce microplastic contamination, and keep non-biodegradable waste out of landfills. The result is a cost-effective alternative that supports responsible consumption and promotes circular economy principles.

With support from the IB Global Youth Action Fund, the project seeks to move beyond the prototype stage and begin real-world applications. The goal is to implement pilot programs in rural parts of India, where access to safe and affordable housing is still limited. By using Poly Citra Bricks to build eco-friendly homes for underprivileged communities, I can make a tangible impact—advancing SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). At its core, Poly Citra Bricks is about rethinking what we throw away and repurpose waste to build something better.
