Profile
Praakruti
Plastic has become a global crisis, contaminating our soil, water, and even organs.
90% toys are made of plastic and are not recycled, making the toy sector the most plastic intensive industry in the world. To address this issue, Ishaan Surve founded Praakruti, a startup dedicated to eliminating plastic from our childhoods and bridging the gap between urban children and nature. Praakruti curates sustainable DIY kits composed of 20+ natural elements from all over India, specially designed to encourage creativity and intuitive play among children.
Praakruti pledges 50% of its profits to uplift rural tribal communities and work towards inspiring the next generation of passionate environmentalists. Over 2 years Praakruti has invested INR +85,000 for tribal welfare by distributing stationary, blankets and toys in rural Zila Parishad Schools, driving interactive awareness sessions and toy building workshops, and funding a Green Theatre Program which is sensitising people about rural environmental problems like the plastic crisis, wildfire prevention, and deforestation. With support from the Fund, I hope to scale up Praakruti’s efforts to gift more children and eco-conscious families joyful memories. I want to expand Praakruti’s impact programs by connecting with more schools and tribal communities to reduce our environmental footprint together.
