Project Shree Shakti
Periods. Shame. Stigma.
For 500 million menstruators across the globe, these are the words synonymous with menstruation.
We strive to change that. Project Shree Shakti (transl. Divine Empowerment) was founded in 2022. At its heart lies our mission of actively combating period poverty with a two-step approach: education through comprehensive menstrual hygiene management workshops, which have been translated into Filipino and Marathi, and the distribution of sustainable reusable pads.
Through this framework, we tackle period poverty in a multifaceted manner with a key focus on the importance of cultural sensitivity and accessibility to comprehensive reproductive health education. To date, we have impacted 408 menstruators, facilitated 16 menstrual hygiene management workshops, and avoided 38.55 tonnes of plastic waste generated from disposable period products across India and the Philippines.
Through the IB's support, we aim to further our mission and create sustainable, empowered communities where women are trained to sew their own reusable pads and workshop attendees are equipped with the resources to conduct menstrual hygiene management workshops, which dispel deep-rooted menstrual stigmas. All to ensure that no menstruator is left behind and transform lives, one reusable pad at a time.
