Project Thryft

Thryft is a student-led circular fashion project from Bengaluru, India, rethinking what second-hand clothing can mean in a school community.

Thryft is a student-led circular fashion project from Bengaluru, India, rethinking what second-hand clothing can mean in a school community.

We collect pre-loved clothes, curate them, and bring them back into circulation through thrift fairs that are run by students. Other than reselling clothes, Thryft is about breaking the cultural stigma surrounding used clothes in India. Students style outfits, redesign pieces, model collections, and build the visual identity of the project, turning Thryft into something expressive, visible, and aspirational. In doing so, Thryft challenges two problems at once: the waste created by fast fashion and the stigma that often surrounds second-hand clothing.

With the support of the Global Youth Action Fund, we hope to strengthen the systems behind Thryft, grow its reach, and shape it into a model that can expand beyond one school. In the long term, we envision Thryft becoming a scalable, student-led model that can be replicated across schools, creating a network of young change-makers who actively reshape fashion culture and embed sustainability into everyday choices. Our goal is to reduce textile waste, shift how young people view reuse, and build a new image for thrift culture in India: one that feels creative, confident, and community-led.
