The Rattan Foundation
At The Rattan Foundation we are working towards bridging the gap between local, qualified, unemployed teachers and government-run primary schools facing a teacher shortage.
We solve two main problems plaguing the Punjab government system: The first is teacher shortages due to a lack of funds available to the government and the second is unemployment of qualified individuals. There are just over 250 primary village schools within Sultanpur Lodhi. We have successfully appointed 24 teachers and impacted close to 1400 students. It’s a win-win situation as we are increasing the livelihoods of children securing a better future for them through their fundamental right to education and by providing a competitive monthly salary to appointed teachers, we are able to increase their household income by between 31% and 67%. My journey has revealed the devastating impact of economic disparities on the access to quality education available to children in Sultanpur Lodhi. I realized that equality education is guaranteed to all citizens only in theory. In reality, it’ll remain a mirage until government-run institutions are funded to match the quality of private institutions. Through my foundation, I hope to appoint an additional 20 teachers in government-run schools which require our urgent action.
