ReVidrio PR
ReVidrioPR is a youth-led community initiative in Puerto Rico focused on reducing glass waste and increasing environmental awareness.
The project currently operates in two neighborhoods with over twenty participating households. Each home receives a collection container, and glass is collected weekly and transported to a local facility where it is repurposed into construction materials such as bricks.
The initiative was created to address the limited accessibility of glass recycling in many communities and to demonstrate how young people can lead practical environmental solutions. To date, more than 850 kilograms of glass have been collected, preventing waste from reaching landfills while promoting sustainable habits.
With support from the Global Youth Action Fund from the International Baccalaureate, ReVidrioPR aims to expand to additional neighborhoods by placing larger glass collection containers in communities that lack recycling options. The project is also designed as a scalable and replicable model that can empower other youth and communities to take action and create lasting environmental impact across Puerto Rico.
