Profile
ROOTeen
We are ROOTeen, a non-profit youth alliance in Southern California with the mission to empower youth to make food security, nutrition literacy, and agricultural sustainability ROUTINE to end hunger and break the cycle of diet-related health conditions in our families, communities, and future generations.
ROOTeen is assisting with the build-out of the CultivaLA farm, the largest free urban farm in Los Angeles County, to transform healthy food access. To improve nutritious food security in our urban city, ROOTeen promotes and engages youth in sustainable, regenerative urban agriculture in our limited green space, a project that also reduces carbon emissions, enhances social links in neighborhoods, and builds climate resilience. ROOTeen has two youth-led programming initiatives: (1) Farming4Futures which engages Southern California youth in hands-on urban agricultural activities while building-out the CultivaLA farm and, (2) Food2Fortify, an outreach program which distributes free nutritious foods to our vulnerable community members--low-income families, seniors, and the unhoused population. ROOTeen's initiatives engage our multi-generational, multi-ethnic communities in agency building, where we grow food and community. We provide active solutions to nutritious food access and outdoor space for social connectedness. We aim to build a future where healthy nutrition is accessible, achievable, and sustainable for everyone.
