Santa Style
Santa Sabina College has recently launched a program to reduce the volume of fashion waste going into landfill.
'Santa Style' is a technology based, not-for-profit initiative, creating a circular model of clothing to ultimately reduce fashion pollution within our local community. The Santa Style project is a student-led initiative whereby students have built an e-commerce website from scratch, that allows Santa Sabina College families, to donate preloved clothing, have this processed, and then made available for sale or swap on the e-commerce web site. Students were shocked to learn through research that the fashion industry is the second biggest polluter in the world. In Australia, the average person disposes of 23kgs of clothing to landfill each year. The environmental damage caused by fashion pollution is alarming. Our students did not want to be bystanders and are bold, brave and committed to reducing this pollution. Already, Santa Style has rescued 75 kilos of clothes from landfill and our goal is to reduce fashion waste by 150 kilos this year. Santa Style is a testament, that commited and inspired young people, can make a meaningful impact every day to positively change the world leading to a brighter future for all.
