SEED LEGACY
Seed Legacy is a youth-led initiative transforming how farming communities in Plateau State, Nigeria, adapt to climate change. The project creates community-owned "living seed banks" where indigenous crop varieties—passed down for generations—are preserved, tested, and strengthened against drought and unpredictable weather.
We will partner with experienced "Guardian Farmers" who safeguard traditional seeds and the deep knowledge of how to grow them. These seeds are planted in communal trial gardens where their performance is documented using simple mobile technology. The result is a digital "Resilience Index"—a growing toolkit of proven, climate-adapted seeds available freely to every farmer in the network.
What we hope to achieve is a replicable model of grassroots climate adaptation. We aim to preserve over 50 indigenous seed varieties within two years, empower farmers as co-researchers rather than passive recipients of aid, and bridge generations by pairing elders' wisdom with youth's technological curiosity.
Ultimately, Seed Legacy proves that conservation begins not in distant forests, but in the seeds our farmers hold. By protecting this agricultural biodiversity, we are building food security, community pride, and a resilient future, one seed at a time.
