Since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, 8 million Ukrainians have fled the country and over one-third of the population has been internally displaced.
Many young Canadians wish they could help but don’t know how to do so. This project will make that possible, by enabling us to fill and send a 40 ft shipping container, full of essential supplies, from Toronto to Ukraine. We will begin with a drive at UCC to collect essential supplies such as food, medical supplies, and baby products. Student volunteers will sort, pack, weigh, label, and catalogue the boxes, and then help to load the container. We have a fantastic network, including volunteers in Ukraine who will unpack the containers, and the Ukraine government and military who distribute the donations to soldiers, hospitals, schools, churches, and families. This project will create hundreds of volunteer opportunities and a high level of engagement at UCC. Students will work together and change lives in Ukraine. Our hope is that people in Ukraine will receive essential supplies to mitigate the devastating impacts of war. We also hope they will see that the students of UCC are there for them in a dark chapter of their history.
