Upcycle
Upcycle is a project founded on helping refugees.
It all started with a conversation - asking refugees what they needed that we as students could provide. The answer was clear: bikes, valued for their sustainability, convenience, and accessibility. On the surface, our project is about collecting recycled bikes, fixing them, and donating them to refugee centers. However, it goes beyond just providing a means of transport. Transportation is something that many of us take for granted, but refugees know and feel its importance deeply. It is what allowed them to begin a new life in Switzerland, and it will also be what allows them to create a new one. Without a convenient means of transport, refugees can face difficulties in accessing important facilities such as: schools, shops and work. With bikes, they gain independence and control, making them feel comfortable enough to explore and enjoy Geneva. Our first goal is to expand by connecting with local journalists to promote our workshops and bike collections. Our second goal is to encourage autonomy and building skills by providing tools to centers so they can fix their own bikes when needed, helping even more refugees build their new lives.
